It's Labor Day, and I'm enjoying some "me" time before the kids awaken and my "job" begins. There unfortunately aren't any no work days for moms! But since it's Labor Day, I'm going to relax and enjoy this sunny morning to its fullest. The laundry can wait. I can water the plants later in the afternoon, although they are a bit droopy. But for now, it's coffee time!
I was so excited to try out a complimentary coffee subscription service from Trade Coffee. As an avid coffee lover, I was surprised I hadn't heard of a coffee subscription service before. I was intrigued by the variety of flavors, as well as the abundance of coffee roasters participating in Trade. On the Trade website, the coffees are put into categories such as "chocolatey," "sweet and smooth" "cold brew" and "decaffeinated." Most roasters will allow you to choose the grind, so you can select "French Press," "AeroPress," "Pour Over," or "Automatic Drip." The coffee ranges in price from approximaTely $12 to $25 per bag, so they are very affordable.
The coffee I chose is Hunky Dory decaffeinated coffee. My roaster (or "toaster" as they call themselves, due to a preference for lighter roasts) was the award winning Sightglass Coffee Company from San Fransisco, California. I was very impressed with this company! Shortly after ordering my coffee, I received an update saying my coffee was toasting and to hang tight for shipping information. A couple days later, I was notified that the toasting process was completed, and the coffee arrived in my mailbox 3 days later. All in all, the process took about a week. But the fun updates made the wait fly by, and I was confident I was receiving a quality product from a reputable company.
When I opened the box from Trade, I loved the beautiful blue packaging. When I opened the 12 ounce bag, the aroma took my breath away! It had such a unique smell of toffee along with hints of fruit. When I brewed the coffee using my French Press, the flavor was rich but not overpowering. It's so well balanced with flavor I can drink it black (although a drop of hazelnut creamer does taste divine with this blend!)
I'm looking forward to ordering more from Trade and trying out some of their other varieties. If you reorder within 15 days you will receive free shipping! Click here to check out their coffee selections and subscribe to Trade!
Since Trade coffee subscription service put me in a tranquil state, I decided to give myself another indulgent treat for the day. I incorporated a tad of the brewed Hunky Dory coffee into this Cookies and Cream Mocha Milkshake. Good thing it's decaf, so I won't be up all night!
Hope you're having a relaxing Labor Day today! Here's a recipe for Cookies and Cream Mocha Milkshake made with Hunky Dory coffee from Trade Coffee Subscription Service:
Ingredients: 6 scoops coffee ice cream; 6 sandwich cookies; 1/4 cup brewed Hunky Dory decaffeinated coffee; 2 tablespoon chocolate almond milk; 2 tablespoons chocolate syrup; swirl of whipped topping; one additional sandwich cookie for garnish.
Directions: Brew a small cup of coffee and allow it to cool. Add the cooled coffee and milk to the bottom of a high powered blender or smoothie machine. Add the ice cream and 6 sandwich cookies. Pulse for 1 minute, or until smooth. Pour chocolate syrup down the sides of a tall glass. Pour the milkshake into the glass. Garnish with whipped topping and remaining crushed sandwich cookie. Serves 1.
