With our kids' school sports teams cancelled for the year, my husband and I have been on the lookout for something to keep the kids active. I was so excited to team up with King Kubb to promote their unique Viking yard game. Their handcrafted set made from solid, eco-friendly hardwood arrived flawlessly in a cute canvas beach bag. With so many pieces, it looked a little intimidating at first, but the rules are really simple. You play with teams, facing opposite sides of each other. Each team lines up 5 wooden "kubbs" (blocks). You toss a wooden baton underhand to knock over your opponent's kubbs, while avoiding the wooden king kubb in the center. If the king is knocked over, it's an automatic loss. Only after all your opponent's kubbs are knocked over can you go after the king to win the game.
What I love about King Kubb is that anyone in the family can play. It's rare to find an activity that both my middle school daughter and my seventeen year old son enjoy. King Kubb is fun at the beach, park, and especially your front lawn. We recently moved into a new neighborhood, so this was a great way to get outside and meet a few new neighbors while we played the game.
My family started our first round of King Kubb with my husband and daughter on one team, any my son and I on the other. My husband and son really got into the game, and both made some tremendous hits! Here's a look at our outdoor fun playing King Kubb at our neighborhood beach:
